Hair Legend: Vidal Sassoon

Sad news for the hairdressing industry, and the world yesterday, that Vidal Sassoon had passed away aged 84. He paved the way for women to wear their hair in geometric cuts with a sleek finish, with Mary Quant and Mia Farrow amongst some of his clients.
A revolutionary, an inspiration and a true hair hero who designs are still as modern and fresh as they were the day he did them. When studying at college I took inspiration from Vidal Sassoon and the ideas he talked about really made me want to be as good as stylist as I could.
Vidal Sassoon CBE (1928-2012)
It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of Vidal Sassoon CBE, who died this morning at his home in Los Angeles surrounded by loved ones.
The 84 year old hairdresser was born in 1928 and sadly lost his battle with leukaemia today.
He became the most celebrated hairdresser in the world having begun his career as an apprentice during the Second World war going on to revolutionise an industry through his iconic haircuts, salons, schools and product lines.
He will be greatly missed by his wife of 20 years Ronnie, his children, grandchildren, family and friends.
In lieu of flowers the family has requested that memorial donations be sent to American Friends of The Hebrew University in support of The Vidal Sassoon International Center for the Study of Anti-Semitism- 11500 W. Olympic Boulevard, Suite 512 LA CA 90064 or www.afhu.org. A service will be planned at a later date.

  1. He was such an inspiration. Not only for hairdressers and the work he did for the industry, but to everyone with his style and business too. He led an amazing life.
